When I got the order for an edible favor for a little girls first birthday party the ideas started flying through my head. Then the client asked for a number one cookie and I immediately thought of the traditional candle. (image found here)

I searched every where for a four inch number one cookie cutter. The best I could find was three inch but that just seemed too small.

So that is when I decided to create my own. I sketched out the image onto a piece of heavy card stock, cut it out, laid it on top of rolled out cookie dough and then traced around it with my paring knife.

This was time consuming and not as perfect as the traditional cookie cutter but I did accomplish the look I was going for! This technique really opens up the possibilities of shaped sugar cookies...

I recently did a sweets table and appetizers for a bachelorette party.
It was so fun to add as much pink as possible!

[excuse the picture... I only had my cell phone and didn't get a shot of the appetizer table]

I made these cupcakes for a baby shower and they were a huge hit!

These are from the book Hello Cupcake, but if you are looking for instructions check out their blog.

Cupcake: Chocolate Cake
Frosting: Butter cream (see below)
Butterflies: Pink & white candy melts with white perils

Vanilla Butter Cream
Adapted from Martha Stewart's Cupcakes
Makes 4 cups

1 1/2 c. unsalted butter, room temperature
4 c. confectioners' sugar, sifted
1/2 tsp vanilla extract

With an electric mixer on medium, beat butter until pale and creamy. Add confectioners' sugar 1/2 cup at a time. Make sure each batch is fully incorporated before adding more. After every two additions increase the mixer speed to high for 10 seconds to aerate the frosting.

Add vanilla extract and beat until frosting is smooth. (can be refrigerated for up to 10 days if stored in an air tight container).

I was recently hired to cater a 50th birthday party full of appetizers.
It was mentioned that the birthday boy loves steak and blue cheese, which immediately reminded me of the flavors typically found in American steak houses.
I took that idea and ran, creating the following menu filled with bite sized steak house favorites.

Blue Cheese Olives

Deconstructed Wedge Salad

Prosciutto wrapped Asparagus with Balsamic Vinaigrette

Mini Baked Potatoes

Creamed Spinach Stuffed Mushrooms

Crabs Cakes with Lemon Aioli

BBQ Chicken Skewers

Steak, Blue Cheese, & Green Onion Crostini

Croissant Wrapped Cocktail Wieners
(I know, not Steak House inspired but we needed a fall back for the kids)

I was super excited about this menu. Fun and full of flavor. So what do you think?

Here are some simple wedding dress cookies I made for a recent bridal shower.

I decorated these cookies with white royal icing and used sprinkles to add some contrast.

Each package was tired off with a dark purple ribbon matching the upcoming wedding colors.
